What Egyptian Travelers Get Wrong About Schengen Applications

I've been in visa documentation for six years, and most of my clients are from Egypt. The mistakes I see repeat themselves constantly — and most of them have nothing to do with the applicant's profile.

المشكلة الأولى: كشف الحساب البنكي

Problem One: The Bank Statement

Most Egyptian applicants think a large bank balance is enough. It's not. What consulates in Cairo look for is consistency. If your normal monthly balance is EGP 50,000 and suddenly it jumps to EGP 300,000 two weeks before your application, that's a red flag — not a green light.

What works: Show 6 months of statements with regular salary deposits. If you received a bonus or sold property, include supporting documents that explain the spike. Context beats numbers every time.

Problem Two: The Cover Letter

Egyptian agencies tend to write cover letters in very formal, almost legal Arabic-English. "I, the undersigned, hereby request..." No consulate wants to read that. They want to know: who are you, why are you going, and when are you coming back.

I write cover letters that sound like a real person explaining their trip to a friend. Friendly, specific, honest. That's it.

المشكلة الثالثة: برنامج الرحلة

Problem Three: The Itinerary

"Day 1: Paris. Day 2: Paris. Day 3: Paris." I've seen this itinerary submitted by Egyptian agencies hundreds of times. It tells the consulate nothing about what you'll actually do.

What I do instead: I research what's actually happening in the destination during the travel dates. A food festival in Lyon? Include it. A museum exhibition? Reference it. It shows the applicant has a real plan, not a copy-paste template.

What I've Learned

The Egyptian market is underserved when it comes to quality visa documentation. Most agencies in Cairo are still using Word templates from 2019. The families I work with — teachers, engineers, small business owners — deserve better than that. They're spending their savings on these trips. The least we can do is give them the best possible chance.
